What charger type does the Kia Niro EV use?

The Kia Niro EV uses a Type 2 connector for AC charging and CCS for rapid charging. A Mode 3 Type 2 cable works with home wallboxes, workplace chargers, and public AC charge points. The Niro EV can charge at up to 11kW on AC with a three-phase supply.

What home charger do I need for the Kia Niro EV?

A 7.4kW home wallbox with a Type 2 cable is ideal for most Niro EV owners. That's the maximum a standard single-phase UK home supply allows, and it adds around 25 to 30 miles of range per hour. A 3-pin portable charger is a slower alternative if you don't have a wallbox yet.

Do the Kia e-Niro and Niro EV use the same charging cable?

Yes, both use a Type 2 connector, so the same Mode 3 Type 2 cable will work. The difference is charging speed on AC. The 2022-onwards Niro EV can charge at up to 11kW, while most e-Niros (2019-2022) charge at up to 7.2kW.
