Is the pre-2019 Kia Soul EV Type 1 or Type 2?

The original Kia Soul EV, registered before April 2019, uses a Type 1 connector on the car. Most UK public charge points and wallboxes have a Type 2 socket, so you'll need a Type 1 to Type 2 cable to use them. Soul EVs from April 2019 onwards switched to Type 2.

How do I know which Kia Soul EV I have?

Check the registration date and the charging port. Soul EVs registered before April 2019 have a smaller battery and a Type 1 charging socket. Models from April 2019 onwards have a larger 39.2kWh or 64kWh battery and a Type 2 socket.

Can I charge the pre-2019 Kia Soul EV from a 3-pin plug?

Yes. A Mode 2 portable charger with the correct connector for your Soul plugs into a standard UK 3-pin socket and adds around 7 to 10 miles of range per hour. It's a handy backup for charging at home or away.
